Virginia Piedmont Regional Science Fair

Redouane, Nik, Jordan, and Yoni judged middle and high school students’ science projects as part of the Virginia Piedmont Regional Science Fair held on Saturday, March 5, 2022. The competition featured projects from students representing Albemarle, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Greene, King George, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, Rappahannock, Spotsylvania, Fauquier, and Stafford counties. This was Redouane’s 5th year as a judge!

Double Hoo Award

Graduate student Jordan Reed and her mentee Dhanush Banka were awarded the Double Hoo Award from the Office of Undergraduate Research. The Double Hoo Research Grant supports pairs of undergraduate and graduate students pursuing research together. Their project is titled “The combined effects of genetic background and diet on metabolism” and is part of a collaboration with Drs. Susanna Keller, Heather Ferris, Sibylle Kranz, and Bijoy Kundu.

Biomedical Engineering undergraduate student Rita Anane-Wae is 2021 UVA Engineering Outstanding Student Awardee. Rita has been tremendously successful in her undergraduate studies. She will continue her career as a process engineer at Merck. We will miss her and wish her well.

Dr. Warren Anderson accepts a position at Bristol Myers Squibb

Dr. Warren Anderson will complete his postdoctoral training in the Civelek Lab on May 31st, 2021. He will be a Principal Scientist, Translational Bioinformatics Late Stage Immunology, Cardiovascular and Fibrosis at Bristol Myers Squibb in the Bay Area. We will miss him and wish him well in his new position.
